Photographer’s Library – Snowdonia revisited

Today’s review in my series of Photographers Library will be about a second book by John Colow I own . The book is called Snowdonia Revisited. It was published in 1996. The 128-page hardcover features monochrome landscape photographs, original poetry and technical notes.

Snowdonia revisited

Title: Snowdonia revisited

Author: John Clow

Published by: Creative Monochrome , 1996, hardcover

In this second book Clow explores changing conditions through black-and-white photography. His approach celebrates the character of the mountains in all weathers, finding beauty in both dramatic scenery and quieter moments. Without colour, attention shifts towards texture, form and tonal relationships. Rock faces, mountain ridges and shifting clouds become studies in light and shadow. The photographs encourage us to look beyond the familiar views and appreciate the atmosphere of the landscape itself.

The inclusion of poetry adds a personal dimension, while the technical notes offer an insight into the photographer’s working methods. Together, these elements make the book appealing to photographers who enjoy understanding not only the finished image but also the process behind it.

So, as a conclusion, what’s my verdict?

If you read my review of The mountains of Snowdonia you already know that I am big fan of Clow’s work . Honestly I think I like this book a bit more than the first one. If you are one of those people those who appreciate traditional black-and-white landscape photography and understand that the most compelling images often emerge from patience, observation and a willingness to work with the elements, this book is for you.

Here is the previous book review.
