TRI THIS : FIVE ROLLS. ONE VISION.

This summer I was part of this amazing opportunity from my photography friend Ted Smith. Ted is an amazing black-and-white film photographer, recently a finalist for Film Photographer of the Year 2026. He decided to start a community film photography project called TRI THIS. The project had a very simple brief: create a cohesive body of work using the five rolls provided. Ted provided 5 rolls of TRI X 400 Kodak film to 10 selected photographers from the UK. Honestly, I felt very pleased to make the selection. My project idea was called “Echoes in Grey” with my intention to photograph landscapes of Iceland in black and white.

I like to think Ted picked me to be part of the project because of my work and not because we know each other for a long time. 🙂 . And of course, I did not want to disappoint him and wanted to deliver great shots for the project.

I loaded my trusted Hasselblad 503CW with Kodak TRI X400 and traveled to Iceland. I don’t think I need to tell you how amazing the landscapes of Iceland are. Unforgettable views and vistas. But all that came with lots of challenges. Had to fight crowds of tourists, weather and most of all technical difficulties with my camera. Unfortunately, my Hasselblad broke down halfway through the trip, and with no backup 120 camera, I had to abandon the project. I managed to finish only 2 rolls. Well, that’s the lesson learned , always have a plan B.

How did I do, you ask?

Instead of 5 rolls of shots I ended up with 2 – from 70 shots down to 14 shots to pick from. Not Ideal. But I am grateful I have at least those 12.

So,whats next?
