Photographer’s Library – The Mountains of Snowdonia and Snowdonia Revisited

Title: The Mountains of Snowdonia

Author: John Clow

Published by: Creative monochrome,1993 First edition, soft cover

I was thinking about which book to pick for my next Photographers’ Library review, and my eyes found two books by John Clow on my shelf. I immediately started to think about how underrated this photographer is. The second reason is that Snowdonia is one of my favourite places in the UK. That’s why these two books are my next to revisit.

The Mountains of Snowdonia is a portfolio of images created by Clow on his Hasselblad 500Cm on Ilford FP4 120 roll film. Book is dedicated by Clow “ to the memory of Mrs.Smith who shared her home, Coed Gwydr above Nant Peris, and her love of the mountains so generously for so many years”.

Also, there is poetry bu the author which compliments the images very nicely.

Author: John Clow

Published by: Creative monochrome,1996 First edition, hard cover

This book contains over 90 images which are complemented by author’s own poetry and prose, which add strength to the emotional power of Clow’s work and help the reader to understand the circumstances in which photographs were created.

I think I personally like this book better than the first one. It’s clear that Clow is photography master who has been in love with this landscape for many years. For a lanscape photographer this si the book which can be revisited numerous times.Truly fantastic work and if you know the locations it’s even better.

Conclusion

I would definitely recommend both books for all photographers colour or black/white I think everybody will find something interesting in the books. I got my copies from the Amazon wbsite , both secondhand and not vey expensive. It certainly made a nice addition to my library a d I return to these quite often. DO you know work of John Clow? Which book you prefer and why? Let me know in the comments below.
