Fire Hydrants of Madeira

A Holiday Zine of Unexpected Discoveries

Wandering through the winding streets and seaside villages of Madeira, I began noticing the humble fire hydrant—each one a tiny burst of color against volcanic stone, tiled walls, and lush greenery. What started as a playful holiday photo habit soon turned into a quiet exploration of the island’s textures, moods, and rhythms.

This zine gathers those small encounters: hydrants sun-faded or freshly painted, leaning on cobblestones or framed by bougainvillea. Together, they reveal an accidental portrait of place—a celebration of how travel, curiosity, and a bit of fun can turn the ordinary into something unexpectedly beautiful.
